About CED GEE | The Factshen

Cedric Miller (born August 13, 1963 is better known as 'Ced Gee' and is of African American descent and was raised in the Bronx, New York where he and his best friend Keith Thornton known as 'Kool Keith' formed the Hip Hop band Ultramagnetic MC's whose debut Critical Beatdown was released in 1988. Ced comes from a very musical family as his first love was Dee Jaying then the drum machine, the EMU SP1200 to which he pioneered after been taught how to use it by Keyboard Money Mike who was an R&B producer at that time and vice president of B-Boy Records. Ced Gee would later became one of New York's most wanted producers for Hip Hop drum machine arrangement and productions and he was also production buddies with the great Paul C, another SP1200 pioneer from New York.

History

Upon leaving school when he was 19, Ced Gee was primarily a DJ and got into rapping with encouragement from Kool Keith. Ced Gee was also the one who taught DJ Moe luv how to Dj for the band. With encouragement from keyboard Money Mike Ced Gee teamed up with his long-time friend Kool Keith who together formed the legendary Rap group called the Ultramagnetic Mc's, Moe Luv soon after became the permanent DJ. Ced Gee produced their first song entitled 'To Give You Love' Bw 'Make You Shake', a very rock, RUNDMC like song which was released on a record label called Diamond International owned by DNA who were the host of a local radio show at that time. Upon this release the group only consisted of Ced Gee, Kieth Thornton and Ced's cousin Moe Luv. Trevor who worked at a record store in Manhattan, New York later joined the band when Ced started working at Next Platueau Records.

Upon becoming the A&R at Uptown Records he signed a record deal with Eddie O'Lockland, director of Next Plateau Records which bought about their first official single 'Ego Tripp'in' which was primarily created by keyboard Money Mike who voice sample could be heard saying/repeating the phrase "Ultra". Soon after the Ultramagnetic's first official album which was primarily produced by Ced Gee entitled 'Critical Beatdown.' Ced Gee's production skills spread globally as he began doing more work for other recording artists and musicians.

Ced Gee was called into the offices of Sony Records who were also the owners of Ruff House Records. He was tasked with being the music creator behind Tim Dog. Tim Dog was a rap artist who primary objective was to wage war against the prominent west coast rap group 'NWA' His first song entitled 'Fuck Compton' was produced by Ced Gee and became one of the biggest and most talked about Rap/Hip Hop beefs that had occurred in the Hip Hop genre before the 2Pac & Biggie beefs. CedGee, went on to produce the Tim Dog album which was once again targeted a West Coast Rappers. Although Ced gee was affiliated by music production alone, Ultramagnetic MC's of explicitly made it clear that Tim Dog was never a part of their band as they did not want to be drawn into his battle against the west coast. As the beef faded so did Tim Dog's musical career to which Ced Gee also moved away from.

Although not to blame the electronic revolution of digital downloads and streaming changed the entire music infrastructure for both Hip Hop artists and record labels and after producing the Ultramagnetic album 'The Four Horsemen' in 1993 like many Rap acts of that era the group slowly drifted apart and each member began to indulge in solo careers. Production did not stop for Ced Gee as he continued to produce for many well-known acts and musicians including the like of Tim Dog, Nas, Prodigy, Dougie Fresh, Bill Cosby to name a few. His input was not very notable in the public eye but very well known within the industry.
